I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No. Admy

9832/1918 of the 1st March regarding the proposals from

Messrs John Swire & Sons, Limited, for the extension of buildings and plant in the shipyard of the Taikoo Dockyard & Engineering Company, Limited, Hong Kong,

Their Lordships desire me to state that Messrs Swire & Sons in submitting their scheme for the approval of the Admiralty ask for favourable consideration with regard to priority for delivery of machine tools and materials and also in the matter of financial assistance to meet present Such assistance is, and has been, day increased cost. given up to 40% on actual cost in some cases, this being, however, the maximum ordinarily allowable.

The conditions which are laid down by the Admir- elty, when the percentage payable by Government has been

finally decided upon, are as shown in the attached letter which is sent to the firm and is taken as the basis for the

financial contract.
